In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

It is interesting to me that darkness and emptiness covered the expanse of deep waters until light exploded into the universe. How many times do we as Christians think our lives should be full of light and joy, yet even in the beginning, darkness preceded light.

When God created light, he did not eliminate the dark but called it night, and the light was called day. In the Bible, it says this was the first day.

Did God Create the Universe in Six Days?

Did God actually create the entire universe in just six days?

The Hebrew word for day is Yom. I don’t think it actually means day as we know it. I have done some research and have this to say:

✔ Yōm does not mean only 24 hours
✔ Ancient Jewish and Christian interpreters knew this
✔ Faithful believers have held multiple views for millennia

To think of a God who has been around for eternity and to think of that God as rushing through creation in 6 days is not something I can embrace.

I believe if we allow “Day” to extend beyond 24 hours, evolution is not such a heretical idea to consider. But to consider all the evolutionary theories to be truth is not right either.

Creation, Evolution, and Human Origins

So, do we come from apes? No, I don’t believe so.

God breathes His own breath into Adam and not into an ape. But it is possible that our DNA is quite similar. That does not discount the magnificence of God, nor does it validate Darwin.

What it allows is for creation and Evolution to be compatible.
