Saturday night was definitely a scene from a horror movie wasn’t it? The sirens blaring, the wind whipping through the trees, lightening and thunder adding to the drama, and the threat of hail.

In the midst of a storm, it is so easy to take our eyes off of Jesus isn’t it?

As I lay in bed, I had perfect peace in the middle of the chaotic storm.

My daughter texted me and I assured her welfare and then sent her this text message.

“God is good. Don’t worry. He will shield us from any harm. I have not even one shred of doubt regarding His power, protection and immense love.”

Where does faith like this come from?

Let me tell you what happened a few years ago.

There was a massive storm blowing threw and I chose to be in the midst of it. I was sitting outside on my patio which is covered with a beautiful bronze covering. The wind was whipping through the curtains, lightning was dancing through the clouds like a prima ballerina and thunder was echoing through the heavens like a rock star.

I was in a state of total calm with fury surrounding me.

I had one prayer. “God, let me be this calm in the storms of life as i am now.”

After a bit of time, I got up and went into the blessing of my home but not before teasing my sweet heavenly Father by saying, “All that drama, and not a drop of rain?”

A few days later there was a downpour and the sweet Holy Spirit pointed out to me, that where I had been sitting in the previous storm, was exactly where the rain was soaking my patio furniture. So, he had cared so much for me that he did not even let one drop of rain soil my clothes while I was sitting in the midst of a storm.

The one thing I yearned for in the midst of the storm on Saturday evening was to know and recite Bible verses of protection. I am adding them here. May you be led to memorize and meditate on them during this storm season.

A Reading for Peace, Protection, and Courage

Psalm 46:1–2

God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore will we not fear, though the earth do change,

And though the mountains be shaken into the heart of the seas.

Psalm 91:1–2, 4

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of Jehovah, He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in whom I trust.

He will cover thee with his pinions,

And under his wings shalt thou take refuge:

His truth is a shield and a buckler.

Isaiah 4:6

And there shall be a pavilion for a shade in the day-time from the heat,

And for a refuge and for a covert from storm and from rain.

Proverbs 18:10

The name of Jehovah is a strong tower;

The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Psalm 56:3

What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee.

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you:

Not as the world giveth, give I unto you.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.

Philippians 4:6–7

In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication

With thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding,

Shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Mark 4:39

And he awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea,

Peace, be still.

And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

Isaiah 43:2

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee;

And through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee:

When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned,

Neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

Psalm 121:7–8

Jehovah will keep thee from all evil;

He will keep thy soul.

Jehovah will keep thy going out and thy coming in

From this time forth and for evermore.

2 Corinthians 4:8–9

We are pressed on every side, yet not straitened;

Perplexed, yet not unto despair;

Pursued, yet not forsaken;

Smitten down, yet not destroyed.

Nahum 1:7

Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble;

And he knoweth them that take refuge in him.

Joshua 1:9

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of good courage;

Be not affrighted, neither be thou dismayed:

For Jehovah thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Psalm 107:29–30

He maketh the storm a calm,

So that the waves thereof are still.

Then are they glad because they are quiet;

So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.

Matthew 7:25

And the rain descended, and the floods came,

And the winds blew, and beat upon that house;

And it fell not: for it was founded upon the rock.
