The raging wind was forcing my trees to bend in submission to its power. The rain was hammering my shingles. My house started to groan at the brute force of the storm. Thunder shook the skies and lighting flashed, slashing through the clouds.

I was safe this time because I was in my home.

But how do I handle a storm of adversity? When there is no shelter and no relief?

I grasp my umbrella of praise, remembering all the times when God has been with me, even though in the midst of a storm He can seem so distant.

My trench coat of intimacy with God shields my heart from the cold, brisk winds of those who do not know how to love. Those who can only see the failures and refuse to see my successful ventures.

Then I pull on my rain boots sloshing through the mud of the painful debris, knowing that on the other side is forgiveness which will be my gift to those who have created the storm.

I will remember that there is a rainbow following some storms. I will lift my eyes to the sky for if I can not see a rainbow maybe I can see the silver lining of a cloud.
